Principles

Principles for a meaningful life

These are the ideas I try to practice when making decisions, doing meaningful work, building relationships, and navigating uncertainty. They are more settled than my questions, but still revised by experience.

01

Meaning is created through responsibility.

Meaning can change from day to day, and sometimes from hour to hour. We create it through what we build or do, what we experience and who we love, and the attitude we choose when life gives us something we cannot change. Fulfillment starts with answering the moment in front of us.

02

Curiosity compounds.

Every question honestly pursued makes the next one easier to ask. The people who keep growing are rarely the smartest in the room; they are the ones who never stopped being interested.

03

Relationships matter more than possessions.

Almost everything we buy depreciates. Almost every relationship we invest in appreciates. The math is not close, and yet most of us budget as if it were.

04

Communication is one of the highest-leverage skills a person can build.

A good idea becomes useful only when it can be explained clearly. Writing and speaking well are not soft skills; they are the interface through which everything else you know becomes useful.

05

Financial freedom creates choices.

Money is not the goal. Money is the option premium: the ability to say no to the wrong things and yes to the right ones without checking a balance first.

06

Technology is an enabler, not a destination.

Tools matter because of what they let people do. The right question for any new technology, AI included, is not how impressive it is, but who it enables and toward what. Used that way, technology multiplies human effort instead of replacing it.

07

Learning is a lifelong responsibility.

No one owes you an education after twenty-two. The world changes faster than any curriculum, and staying useful, and staying interesting, is a job you hold for life.
